Don’t hit the road Jack…

Despite Everton being forced into a public rebuttal of the stories surrounding the departure of Dan Gosling, Toffees fans shouldn’t be worried over his departure.

In fact, tragically, the real losers in this whole saga have been Plymouth Argyle, who have seen a loss of potential income after the PFCC tribunal ruled that despite Gosling having a sell on clause, his exit on a Bosman meant that neither club was entitled to compensation.

Had highly regarded youngster Jack Rodwell, and not Gosling, been at the centre of this story, Toffees fans would have had reason to worry. As it is, Everton have lost an injury prone player who, despite early promise, had spent the majority of league games warming the bench. By way of comparison, Rodwell, seen as a future England international, has become an important part of the Toffees’ future, with Everton delighted to have tied him to the club until 2014. After all Gosling went to a club whose online betting odds suggest they could be relegated next season.

With potential suitors reportedly including Manchester United and Arsenal, Toffees fans can sleep easy knowing that unless a club comes in with a massive offer, Rodwell will be playing a major part in the Toffees’ continuing drive for success. Should an offer come in, it is likely that the majority of any transfer fee would be given to manager David Moyes to strengthen his squad.

Until that day arrives, Everton have one of the most capable young English players around helping attempt to upset the football betting odds and clinch a place in the top four.

Considering the amount of back page inches devoted to the transfer of Gosling, it appears that the tabloids may just have missed the real story, which is one of an Everton squad quietly being assembled and developed to mount a challenge for the holy grail of a Champions League place.

the big difference between rodwell and gosling is respect and pride and dan gosling as neither, today we read about him praising his brilliant legal team who fought for his release from everton, yet he states that everton did not want him if that is true why would he need such a brilliant legal team, let’s hope he enjoys his short time in the premiership as next season newcastle will be back in the champion league, will dan then ask his brilliant legal team to look for another loop hole, i laughed when the newcastles manager proudly announce that dan can play right back, did he forget that the reason danny boy left everton was beacuse he DID NOT want to play right back and insisted on playing EVERY game in midfield, i’m still wondering who he thought moyes should drop to play him there, does dan really believe that he’s better than arteta, cahill, pienaar, felliani, bilyletdinov, osman or the next england captain rodwell, if so he’s stupider than i thought

The only thing that we’ll miss about Dan Gosling is the £3m transfer-fee that we could have got for him. He’s not good enough to improve a team which has consistently challenged for Europe in recent years. And judging by his antics in this whole saga, his attitude could just be a dampner on the best team-spirit in football. If this had happened with Rodwell, we’d be calling for the head of every official at Everton. I suppose that the best way to look at it, is we aren’t going to be making any of these same errors again. And at least we learnt on a player that was a bit of a waste of space anyway. We didn’t lose anyone important due to an administrative error.
