It’s Looking Promising

A short while ago the team left for their tour of Australia and while there are some key players missing, due to the World Cup, there seems to be an air of excitement within the squad.

There’s no doubt everyone is looking forward to Australia, Tiny Tim’s homeland, but asides the obvious ‘holiday mood’ factor it seems that the backroom staff haven’t had any time off this year. So far we’ve had a massive boost extending four of our top player contracts – Rodwell, Cahill, Coleman and now Mr Baines has stepped to the mark, but there’s also the arrivals of Jan Mucha, Joao Silva, Jermaine Beckford and Magaye Gueye. Many sceptics are already criticising Moyes for his failure to bring in any ‘Big Names’, but be warned, questions have been previously asked about ALL of Moyes’ signings and you’re hard stretched to find failures.

With the blues also strongly linked with Araz Abdullayev, a young Azerbaijan talent and the experienced German defender Arne Friedrich, it’s busy times at Goodison. There are also the inevitable Landon Donovan rumours stating he’s due to return with a permanent deal ‘any day soon’ and we all eagerly await the conclusion of the Pienaar and Arteta chronicles.

Little wonder that there’s a buzz around the place and I’d expect the Joe Ledley, Moutiniho and Fernandes stories to hit the rumour mill before long. Let’s hope we can transfer the feel good factor on to the pitch for an ‘out of character’ good start to a season.
