Donovan Set To Sign?
This preseason is something that we Evertonians are not used to. The rumours keep coming true, we’ve secured a number of our current team on long term contracts and the new arrivals are coming in thick and fast!
The latest arrival was announced over the weekend, and to be fair it’s not one that I’ll be getting too excited about. Araz Abdullayev is an 18 year old midfielder from Azerbaijan, and whilst he is an international regular, the gulf between Azerbaijan and The Premier League could prove to be a leap too far. That said, yet again The Peoples Club have pulled off a great bit of business. Everton haven’t actually bought the player, they have simply agreed a two year deal for first option to sign him. So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for the youngster.
Time to get excited? Well I for one am definitely getting excited as the rumour mill builds speed. Common sense has been tossed out the window and I’m fully expecting the arrival of Landon Donovan in Australia any day soon. OK, that’s maybe dreaming out loud, but at least we’ve had the release of a statement that was totally sitting on the fence “Right now, I want to be in America and I absolutely love being here and I loved getting back to my team-mates today. As you know, I never say never to anything and, right now, rumours are rumours. said Donovan
If there’s something serious to look at, then I will but, for now, I’m very excited to be home.”
Every where you turn there’s a fan site with the obligatory “we’ve heard a whisper” and “what should we read in to …”, just for the record – WE’VE HEARD NOTHING! Just dreaming on like the rest of the supporters.
To use a statement Mr Moyes used when describing the last time he arrived, “It’s a no brainer”.
It begs the question – What is the delay? It is getting to the stage of desperation for some of us. We want him and he wants to play at the top level, here at Everton. He is a great player who brought so much more to our team. Furthermore, I’m no commercial expert, but I can’t help believing that any deal would be self financing with the income generated from the USA.

I’m dreaming too. Despite the Gosline cock-up, signing Landon could make this a near-perfect Summer.
