Fellaini returns from lay-off
Everton have been boosted by the news that Marouane Fellaini will be fit for the new season. After six months out with an ankle problem, Fellaini’s return will be like a new signing for manager David Moyes.
The Everton man was injured in the Merseyside derby last February and he required surgery and a lengthy recovery time. David Moyes has now indicated the Belgian midfielder will be fit in time for their opening game against Blackburn, a match the Premier League odds make them favourites to win.
Everton spent £15 million to bring Fellaini to the club from Standard Liege, in doing so they made Fellaini the club’s most expensive ever signing. The Everton fans instantly took to the six foot four midfielder and in his 53 games for the club he has scored 10 goals.
At the end of his first season Fellaini was awarded the club’s Young Player of the Year. Sales of afro wigs in Merseyside dramatically increased over the season. Eligible to play for Belgium and Morocco, Fellaini chose to play for the country of his birth, Belgium. He has been capped 21 times for his national side, scoring three goals.
In Fellaini and Tim Cahill, Everton have two of the best attacking midfielders in the country. The club will be looking to improve on last year’s eight placed finish and the Premier League betting suggest they will be in the mix again.
They were nudged out of a European place by rivals Liverpool in the last campaign, by only two points. David Moyes will be hoping they get their own back this season.
