Well Balanced Season?

The new seasons fixtures have been released today. The opening day gives the blues a trip to Blackburn which we would hope is an easier opener than last season. Following the trip to Eawood Park is a visit to Goodison Park by the mighty Wolves. All round, on paper, it doesn’t appear to be a bad opener for the Toffees.

The end of August and beginning of September brings on the big boys with a trip to Aston Villa and a week later we host Man United. October hails the arrival of Liverpool at Goodison for the seasons first Merseyside derby and the November game of note is another home fixture, this time The Grand Old Team plays host to Arsenal.

The FA have given us consideration for December, with The Champions in the first week and Man City the week before Christmas, any slip ups will be forgotten about in time for Christmas and the Boxing Day fixture is a home game against Birmingham.

The second half of the season is just as balanced. There doesn’t appear to be any months that we need to write off – like the one last season when we had to play Liverpool, Chelsea and Man United in close succession? Well, 2 out 3 ain’t bad!

For my money I couldn’t have picked a better set of fixtures if I’d fiddled it myself. The big games are evenly distributed and should keep the lads on their toes for the best part of the season. Now its fingers crossed for the release of the cup dates, if they fall kindly it could boost our chances of trophies.
