World Cup & Club Football

The World Cup never fails to whip up the rumour mill and get the players agents on overdrive. But if you do pay any attention to the gossip, you would be forgiven if you had fears of a mass exodius from Goodison.

It is great to see that we have started to tie down are most influencial and promising players, but what about the rest?

I’ve been keeping a close eye on our lads who are strongly linked with moves away Goodison. Yobo, The Yak, Peanuts and the big surprise on the Summer exit list , John Heitinga. They are all dominant figures in their respect national teams but I’ve struggled to see any of them have a major impact in their games. If they are due to leave, and I hope we’ve learn’t our lessons of trying to stop players leaving, is this a good thing? Will it put off prospective buyers or simply keep their value down? Will the players themselves come back down to earth with a reality bump and will they stay?

With many of our key players featuring in South Africa, will fitness be an issue? Look at Bilyaletdinov who played almost two seasons back to back. Great signing but he was knackered when he arrived. We’ve already seen Peanuts complaining in the news about being over tired.

What are your views on the World Cup and Everton?

Sure, we are all behind our nations when it comes to winning the World Cup, but is it a good for club football and Everton FC?
