Everton In Preliminary Talks For Donovan

It could be the news that every Evertonian has been waiting for since March.

Numerous sources report that Officials from Everton Football Club have held preliminary talks with the MLS and Landon Donovan’s management team. What’s more encouraging for the fans is LD’s statement:

“I would love to go back to Everton. I love the people there and I love the fans there.”

Most of us are likely to ignore the rest of that sentence in hope that an agreement can be reached to bring the USA World Cup Star back to Goodison in a permanent deal. Donovan continued;

“But that said, I love being in America too, so we are going to take everything into account and see where it ends up.”

“Anything is possible at this stage and I’m going to make the decision that’s best for me. We hear little bits and pieces here and there and there have certainly been clubs that are interested, but right now, it’s only preliminary.

“There’s still a lot of time left in the transfer window, so we’ll see what moves are made and, if it’s serious, then we’ll treat it seriously.”

It is true to say that LD has plenty of time before the transfer window closes, but following Dan Garber’s latest statement hopes have been raised even higher that the deal may be concluded sooner rather than later, “We need our best American players here and we want to have him play next Saturday in front of people who want to see an LA Galaxy game, as opposed to having them wait to experience him on the Fox Soccer Channel or ESPN because they are watching a game being played in Europe.”

“I’m the commissioner of MLS and for my goal, raising the profile of our league, we need our best players here and I will always fight hard to keep them here.”

Naturally, Garber is clinging on to all of his prayers that LD will stay in America, but the majority of MLS fans realise that a move to the English Premier League is as good for the MLS League as it would be for the player.

In the meantime, it’s edge of the seat stuff for the Toffee’s Fans who face an historic game in the Club’s history next week when Everton face Everton Chile at Goodison Park. It is a game where their can only be one winner, Everton of course. With all that hype going on for the next week and the talk surrounding Everton opening negotiations in America, the fans will now start to dream that the stage has been set for a Major League Star to be unveiled in the same game.

    Come on Everton get it sorted, I’ll be gutted if he signed for another team, just because we never stumped up the cash.

    Get it done. Even if we have to sacrifice Pienaar to fund the deal, get it done.
