Everton have been boosted by the news that Marouane Fellaini will be fit for the new season. After six months out with an ankle problem, Fellaini’s return will be like a new signing for manager David Moyes. The Everton man was injured in the Merseyside derby last February and he required surgery and a lengthy recovery time. David Moyes has now indicated the Belgian midfielder will be fit in time for their opening game against Blackburn, a match the Premier League odds make them favourites to win. Everton spent £15 million to bring Fellaini to the club from Standard Liege, in doing so they made Fellaini the club’s most expensive...

It’s time to move on following the ‘Super, Super Rich, Super, Super Rich, Super, Super Rich, Greedy Danny Gosling’ saga. So who’s in and who’s out, I’m talking about the squad. The announcement of the Premiership Squad Rules kind of pulls the game in line with the Fantasy League Game we all know and love: Name a squad of 25 players 8 must be home-grown No more than 17 of those players can be over 21 and not home grown Easy, so what’s a home-grown player? Whilst this has left many of us confused its actually not difficult. The definition of a home-grown player, according to the Premier League: “A...

Gosling-gate has been dragged out for weeks now with a whole host of rumours coming to ahead last Sunday when newspapers quoted David Hodgsons version of events. The latest news, and hopefully the final word on the matter, is an Official Everton Football Club response to the allegations. Everton simply state that a number of meetings were concluded with verbal and handshake agreements with both Mr Gosling and his representative. These meetings are reportedly prior to June 2010 and go back until January 2008 when Gosling signed for the blues. The offer on the table was a significant increase in his terms and were extension deals leading in to a...

Reports are suggesting that Arsenal have withdrawn their bids and lost interest in stealing Jags. Yes, stealing Jags! The Arsenal forums have already started to post their opinions on “Evertons vastly over priced valuation”. Is this not the pot calling the kettle? Alanis Morissette could get another verse out of this one. I don’t for one minute dispute that £20m is a lot of money. I also feel that the transfer fees of Lescott and Johnson last year should simply be disregarded as studpid and not be set as a bench mark for the ‘English Defender’. But you can’t protect your own squad by hiding behind outrageous valuations (Fabregas) and...

A statement from Inaki Ibanez, Mikel Arteta’s agent, has sparked a host of stories over the past 48 hours with the general theme that Arteta will remain at Goodison. But what Evertonians want to know is whether his heart is in it? Ibanez is one of the few agents who is actually well behaved and most of his comments in the past have been complimentary towards the relationship between Arteta and the People’s Club. His latest comment, as innocent as it seems, has a lot of Toffees worried. Ibanez has been quoted as saying, “Everton are asking for a lot of money, so it is difficult for Mikel to exit...

In a bizarre way I honestly think that this is probably one of the calmest close-seasons I have ever been through. For a start, I didn’t have to watch England in the World Cup hoping an Everton player wasn’t going to get injured, tapped-up or both. Secondly, we’re into the back end of July and we’re not desperate to sign a player, any player, because we’ve already let seven of them go. The players we have signed already look promising and they’re for the future. They don’t have to hit the ground running because we’ve got no-one else to pick. Even Beckford to an extent can be relieved of a...

When a young precious boy called Wayne Rooney burst into the Everton team eight years ago his rapid development from schoolboy to world-class professional footballer was startling. He had the complete package – pace, strength and skill. He was a Premier League star already and he had barely thrown out his school uniform. Those special players, who are destined for the very top, only come round every so often. Or do they? The Everton class of 2010 have a new graduate in their ranks – Jack Rodwell. With the flurry of World Cup post-mortems deploring the lack of technical skill among young English players, and the failure of clubs to...

Well, it was too good to be true. Earlier this month I wrote on Peoples Blog regarding the unusually positive preseason start we had made. It referred to the positive contract talks, additions to the squad and our hopes and expectations regarding key senior players. This weekend has felt like a kick in the gutts, even though nothing has actually happened. Let’s face it, we are vulnerable. It started with a ‘keep your sights off Donovan’ statement from the MLS and quickly gathered pace. Pienaar to Inter Milan? Arteta to Man City? and then out of the blue, Arsenal are actually tabling bids for Jagielka. And we thought that the...

Our hopes and dreams of signing Landon Donovan in the preseason have been dealt a major league below by the MLS commissioner Don Garber. Speaking about Landon Donovan, Garber said: “MLS needs football heroes, and we have a great American football hero playing for us in LA, holding the torch for the sport in our country, and that’s very important. I don’t believe that it’s something we can do without. “Landon is, in my view, the greatest player of our generation and an incredibly valuable part of our history but also of our future.” Garber didn’t rule out the possibility of Donovan returning to Everton on loan, remaining determined that...

Harry Ross, the Everton Chaplain, is recovering in hospital after a suspected heart attack. Harry was rushed to Southport hospital where he was treated and his condition was stabilised. He has now been transferred to Liverpool Heart and Chest hospital in Broadgreen. His condition is stable and he is making good progress, staff expect he will be discharged over the next few days. Club spokesman Ian Ross said: “It is obviously a concern to everyone here at Everton FC. Reverend Harry Ross is an integral part of this football club and has been for a very long time. “We have been in touch with his family and everyone from the...
