So the papers are at it again – rumour, rumour, rumour … Or is it? After watching the blues at the weekend I would certainly agree with this rumour on two fronts. Pienaar isn’t putting the performances in that spell out “improve my contract” and we are definitely falling short with our attacking options. So, is it clever media speculation or is there some truth that Everton and Tottenham are at an advanced stage for a swap deal? What would you prefer?

Reports in both Russia and Portugal claim that Everton are close to securing the services of Marat Izmailov. Izmailov, a Russian midfielder, is reported to have fallen out with bosses at Sporting Lisbon last season. The confusion arose when the club expected him to turn out in a Europe League match but the player failed to even turn up at the ground claiming he was carrying a knock. Since then he has been out of favour with the Portuguese club and they are keen to recoup most of the costs incurred when they signed him. In March 2010, the former Lokomotiv Moscow star looked to be on his way back...

Like a Kungfu kick between the eyes comes the shock rumour of the preseason – Crouch to Everton? The former Anfield favourite has emerged in some reports as a target for DM. It certainly looks like Crouch has fallen out of favour at Tottenham and a return to Merseyside certainly isn’t beyond the relms of possibility. If a move back up north is what Crouch favours I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Hodgson flashing the cash, however, if Crouch is more interested in football rather than money, he may well feel that the blues are both a fresh start with a bitof home comforts for fiancee Abbey Clancey. I...

Less than 12 hours after quoting that I didn’t think Osman would be in the Everton starting 11, here I am banging the drum for him to stay following reports that an Italian club are sniffing around. Serie A club Palermo have emerged in a number of internet reports as a possible new home for Ossie. These fresh reports are so random that they are either true or Osman had a holiday over there in the summer and a keen eyed reporter has put one and one together and come up with three. I stand by what I said in the early hours of today, I don’t think he’s going...

It could be the news that every Evertonian has been waiting for since March. Numerous sources report that Officials from Everton Football Club have held preliminary talks with the MLS and Landon Donovan’s management team. What’s more encouraging for the fans is LD’s statement: “I would love to go back to Everton. I love the people there and I love the fans there.” Most of us are likely to ignore the rest of that sentence in hope that an agreement can be reached to bring the USA World Cup Star back to Goodison in a permanent deal. Donovan continued; “But that said, I love being in America too, so we...

Landon Donovan’s latest statement has revealed that there may be a possible move away from The LA Galaxy. Following a 5-2 thrashing by Man Utd he said: ‘We have transfer interest and we will have some time to think about it and see where it goes. There is interest from a number of teams.’ So what’s to think about? There’s only one team for LD and that’s Everton, after all We are born, not manufactured… and so on! I would like to think that if Everton stumped up the money and lay it on the table, LD would jump at the chance. Or, am I being completely stupid and naive?...

Everton certainly seem to be building for the future and this morning are being linked with Leroy Fer. Fer is currently signed with Feyenoord and is on the verge of breaking into the Dutch International team. The 20 year old has been described as a box-to-box midfielder and has an aggression and commitment to his game that would suit the Premier League style of play. Last months Guardian highlighted Fer as one of Dutch footballs most promising yougsters. Thomas Watt wrote, “Ferocious in the tackle, sensible with possession and capable of driving forward runs, the 20-year-old has been singled out by his captain, Van Bronckhorst, as one of the best...

There have been rumours flying about for weeks, but it now looks likely that Dan Gosling is set to leave Everton. The England Under-21 star has had a Premier League Inquiry rule in his favour regarding an administration error that leaves him a free agent. It is obvious that Gosling intention wasn’t to stay at Goodison, let’s face up to facts, if he wanted to negotiate a deal with the club he wouldn’t have gone to the Premier League for an Inquiry. Neither can it be about a football career, if the rumours are true. None of the clubs linked with Dan could touch Everton for Youth Development. Perhaps there’s...

Although Evertonians are quietly content at the Toffees pre-season preparations so far – new deals for four first teamers as well as four new signings – the a big name arrival is still lacking. Now England are out of the World Cup the rumour mill is slowly cranking up to full gear as the papers seek to fill column inches before the Premier League starts again next month. Most of the stories involving Everton regard players leaving, principally Mikel Arteta, who is rumoured to be interesting Man City in a crazy money plus three player swap deal. If they are prepared to pay Yaya Toure £200,000 a week, who knows...

This preseason is something that we Evertonians are not used to. The rumours keep coming true, we’ve secured a number of our current team on long term contracts and the new arrivals are coming in thick and fast! The latest arrival was announced over the weekend, and to be fair it’s not one that I’ll be getting too excited about. Araz Abdullayev is an 18 year old midfielder from Azerbaijan, and whilst he is an international regular, the gulf between Azerbaijan and The Premier League could prove to be a leap too far. That said, yet again The Peoples Club have pulled off a great bit of business. Everton haven’t...
